Nothing beats the original Cafe Terrace by Vincent van Gogh in the Krüller-Müller Museum. The frame though.. Where the museum chose to frame the masterpiece with their standard simple blank wooden frame, we found this amazing 300 (!) year old frame for our hand-painted reproduction.
This very heavy and bulky Lombard Louis XIV artifact has the feel of an antique piano. Carved in wood, finished in black lacquer and a subtle internal gold thread; your chance to own a piece for your private collection that would pride any museum. It is in good condition with small signs of ageing.
And as we do when we are lucky to find an exceptional frame like this one, one of our master painters was happy to paint Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace au Place du Forum in matching size for it.
The actual cafe can still be visited in Arles in the South of France where Van Gogh painted it on the street. He wrote that he found the night often more colorful than the day. I suppose he could have the same opinion about this frame. The black lacquer makes it very dark and yet it is alive. As if you can feel the atmosphere of this special evening in September 1888.
